EVENT DESCRIPTION

In 2016, a survey commissioned by Plan International and Our Watch found that 30% of Australian women aged 15-19 agreed that "girls should not be out in public places after dark". This perception is limiting women from their rights to personal safety and the ability to move freely in public places.

Innovation is the key to removing this fear,  boosting mobility and participation of women in the city, and eliminating practices which drive gender-based violence.

WIESoc and Aurecon are proud to present the 2020 Design Challenge which will focus around the important topic 'Safety After Dark'. This is the chance for YOU to get directly involved with designing solutions to improve safety for all.

HOW IT WORKS:

In teams of 5, you will be given one week to come up with a solution to the given case and submit your presentation slides. Following this, the top 6 teams will be selected to refine their case presentation and undertake a mentoring session with a member of the Aurecon's 'Design to Innovate' team. These teams will then virtually pitch their idea to a panel of new Aurecon Judges during the final heat on the 25th of June.
