In December 2018, UNSW was one of 15 Australian institutions to be awarded the inaugural Athena
SWAN Bronze Institution Award for its work in advancing gender equity and diversity in the Science,
Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) disciplines in higher education and
research.
In the next stage of the Athena SWAN accreditation process, UNSW is documenting and assessing
the impact and outcomes of various initiatives implemented across the university as part of the
Bronze Action Plan. The university will report on progress made, and areas where progress is still
required, as it applies for the Athena Swan Silver Award.
We invite UNSW students who are over 18 years old, are female (cis- and transgender*) and/or
gender diverse and are studying STEMM degrees at undergraduate or postgraduate levels, to
indicate your interest in participating in this study by attending an online focus group.
Students participating in the focus groups will receive a e-gift voucher as an acknowledgement of
participation. The focus groups will be held in July and August 2022 on Zoom and will take from 60
to 90 minutes. They will be audio and video recorded, and all participants will be deidentified in the
data and in any subsequent publications.
If you are interested in participating, please follow the link below to the Participant Information
Sheet and Consent Form (PISCF) which includes all details of the study. If you wish to participate, you
can indicate your consent in the online form, followed by a short survey that will register your
confidential Expression of Interest.
